Institute for Electrical Engineering in Medicine (IME)

The Institute for Electrical Engineering in Medicine (IME) of the University of Lübeck was inaugurated in November 2015 on the factory premises of Dräger in Moislinger Allee. The cooperation between the University of Lübeck and Dräger follows the current trend towards closer cooperation between clinics, research and industry with the goal of developing innovative medical technology.
 
The main research areas of IME are in the field of medical technology and biosignal processing. For this purpose, novel methods of machine learning and control technology are being developed and used for decision-making in assistance systems and physiological control circuits.

Devices that offer these functions and capabilities can constantly adapt to changes and regulate themselves accordingly. The future research results, for example, will find concrete application in the air conditioning of incubators, the improvement of long-term ventilation or the early weaning or also in the regulation of the dosage of medication to avoid incorrect dosages.
 
The institute is headed by Prof. Dr. Philipp Rostalski.
 
Electrical Engineering in Medicine was added as an additional institute to the Center for Open Innovation in Connected Health (COPICOH) in April 2019.
