Institute of Social Medicine and Epidemiology (ISE)

The Institute for Social Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Lübeck was founded in 2013 by integrating the former Institute for Social Medicine and the Institute for Epidemiology.

Research topics focus mainly on social medicine and clinical epidemiology. Current topics cover issues of epidemiology of chronic diseases, evaluation of prevention and screening programs, quality of life, research on nursing and rehabilitation, as well as social and evidence-based medicine.

The nursing research unit was founded in 2007 (www.pflegeforschung.uk-sh.de). Research mainly focusses on clinical nursing research in different settings as e.g. prevention of physical restraints and psychotropic medication in nursing home residents, care for people with cognitive impairment and dementia, interprofessional education, “smart technologies” in health care etc.

The bachelor program in nursing at the University of Lübeck was started in 2014 and is also led by the nursing research unit (www.uni-luebeck.de/studium/studiengaenge/pflege.html).
